When does the Kickstarter campaign launch?
The Kickstarter campaign launches in mid-June 2025. Support us to help bring Ultima Chess to more platforms, enhance the game with VR cinematics and multi-language support, and expand the gaming experience.
When is the release date?
Ultima Chess is set to launch in September 2025 on SteamVR and Windows desktop, with future releases planned for Meta, PSVR2, Pico and MacOS.

Can I play Ultima Chess without VR?
Yes! A desktop version is planned for 19 of September 2025, but the game is primarily designed for VR immersion and high visual fidelity. The VR version will offer the most dynamic and cinematic experience.
Will Ultima Chess have tournaments?
Yes! Ultima Chess features a competitive ranking system and will host regular chess tournaments as the community grows.
What chess engine is Ultima Chess using?
We are currently developing a custom chess engine with an ELO cap of 1500. On release, we plan to integrate Stockfish, one of the strongest open-source chess engines.
Can I customize chess pieces and game visuals?
Yes! Ultima Chess features customizable chess sets. As you progress, you’ll unlock 12 factions, each with a unique visual style and handcrafted pieces.
Can I play with friends? Is crossplay supported?
Yes, you can challenge your friends via Steam and Meta. While cross-platform multiplayer is not available at launch, we plan to introduce it in future updates.
How often will Ultima Chess receive updates?
We are fully committed to long-term development and plan to release regular updates for at least three years. These will include new content, balance improvements, and additional features.
Will new factions and chess sets be added?
Yes! We have two major DLCs planned, introducing new factions, story campaigns, and custom chessboards. These expansions will enhance the gameplay without disrupting the core experience.

What game engine does Ultima Chess use?
We are developing Ultima Chess in Unreal Engine 5. Our studio has over 5 years of experience working with UE5, and our technical director has 10+ years of expertise. We’ve even won an Epic Spotlight award for our previous work in VR development.
How is Ultima Chess funded? Why Kickstarter?
We are self-funding the project with our own resources and small contributions.
Kickstarter will help us expand to Meta, PSVR2 and other platforms, enhance the game with VR cinematics and multi-language support, and bring even more features to life.
